Epic Kayaks presents the 2009 Molokai World Championships.  The race is set for May 17, 2009!  A new addition this year is the Makapuu Challenge – this coastline race is set for May 10, 2009 with a 25 km course that is the prefect warm-up for the international contingent of paddlers who will be in Hawaii for the Molokai World Championships.  Entry into the Makapuu Challenge is included in the fee for the World Championships.

Start : Kaluakoi, Molokai
Finish : Hawaii Kai Marina
Distance : Approx 28.2 Nautical Miles (52.2 km)
Course : From start to finish points with a way point halfway across the channel. It is mandatory for all competitors to go through the waypoint.
Craft : Surf-ski. OC-1 is welcomed, but please take note that OC-1 Molokai World Championships is in April.
Entry Fee : $425.
Escort boats : The race will provide one escort boat per 5-7 contestants. It is not mandatory for a competitor to have a personal escort boat, but if a
competitor has a personal escort boat, the entry fee is reduced by $200.
Safety equipment : All competitors will need to have a cellphone, life
jacket, leash from ski to person, flare. Race committee may also require IPERB GPS type units.
Prize giving : To be held 3 hrs after winner has finished. Will be held at (Koko Marina Shopping Center Main Stage ­ the finish line)
Prize money : Will not be more than previous years but will comply with US$ 25 000 minimum requirement for 4 Star World Series points.
